Lieutenant General JULIUS W. BECTON, JR.

U.S. Army, Retired

 

 

Lieutenant General Julius Wesley Becton, Jr. was born June 29, 1926 in Bryn Mawr, PA.  General Becton enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in August, 1945, through Officer Candidate School (OCS).  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Prairie View A&M College in TX.  General Becton holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Maryland.  His military education includes the Army Command and General Staff College, Armed Forces Staff College, and the National War College.

 

During his 39 years of military service, General Becton served in successive, demanding combat positions in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  He has served as Commander, 2d Brigade, 2d Armored division, Fort Hood, TX; Chief, Armor Branch, Officer Personnel Directorate, Army Office of personnel Operations; Deputy Commander, United States Training Center, Fort Dix, NJ; Commanding General, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX; Commanding General, United States Army Operational Test and Evaluation Agency, Falls Church, VA; and Commanding General VII Corps, United States Army Europe.  Prior to his retirement in 1983, he served concurrently as the Deputy Commanding General for Training at the Training and Doctrine Command, and The Army Inspector of Training.

His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with “V” Device, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medal.

 

Following his distinguished military career of 39 years, General Becton served as Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency from 2985 to 1989.  Subsequently he was President of Prairie View A&M University in TX.

 

He and his wife, the former Louise Thornton, reside in Springfield, VA.  They have 5 children: Shirley Becton McKenzie, Karen Becton Johnston, Joyce Becton Best, Renee Strickland, and Julius Wesley, III.

Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg

U.S. Army, Retired

 

Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg was born May 11, 1928 in Florence, SC.  General Gregg enlisted in the Army and was commissioned a Quartermaster Second Lieutenant after completing Officer Candidate School.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Summa cum Laude) from Saint Benedict College, Atchison, KS.  General Gregg’s other educational development included Army command General Staff College, Army War College, and the Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government-Executive Program in National and International Security.

 

During his thirty-one years of military service, General Gregg served in combat positions in Korea and Vietnam. His military assignments included numerous command and staff positions:  Director for Logistics, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, United States Army, Europe; Commander, Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Europe; Deputy Director and later Director of the Troop Support Directorate, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Department of the Army; Commander, Nahbollenbach Army Depot, Germany; and Logistics Staff Officer in the Joint Petroleum Office, United States European Command.

 

General Gregg earned, among other awards, the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation medal and the Army Commendation medal.

His private industry positions have included Executive Vice President, Steeltech Manufacturing, Inc.; Vice president and General Manager, Cox Cable, New Orleans, LA.  He currently serves as President, James Martin Government Intelligence, Inc.

 

He is married to the former Charlene McDaniel.  They have 2 daughters, Sandra and Alicia.  The Greggs now reside in Springfield, VA.
